Mission
Transforming the paradigm of abandonment in the interior of the country. Making a village reborn, in a holistic and integrated way, from its “almost” total abandonment. Combine the recovery of terraces, cultivating crops adapted to the mountain climate (aromatic plants) thus contributing to the increase of biodiversity. Recover some houses in order to create a sustainable tourist offer. Eliminate invasive exotic species, promoting the natural regeneration and planting of indigenous flora species. Since the main area of intervention is located in the south of the urban agglomeration, there was great concern to reduce the most flammable and/or exotic species, thus reducing the fuel load. As well as increasing the protection of the village against the risk of fire.
Who we are?
The one man band was and has been the inhabitant António Carlos Andrade, who, in parallel with his previous activity in the field of classical music, has been cleaning up edges and building a piece of nature in a holistic, integrated way and in communion with the environment. During this solo journey, which already exceeds two decades of persistence and resilience, at times, various collaborators crossed paths. Some in the form of volunteer work, others in the form of adopting an indigenous tree/species. Among them, the following may be highlighted: Luísa, Ana, Carlos, Francisco, Silvestre, Isabel, Yuki, Mariana, Patrícia, Rita, Jorge, Ricardo, Alcina , Prof. Alberto, Helena, Diogo, Liliana, Miguel, Miranda, Joana, Paula, Guilherme, Sílvia...
And so many others.
And so many others.
Why would you adopt a tree? We give you some reasons to do so - you would like to have a tree if you have no space
- you would like to neutralize your carbon footprint - you would like to support the activity of Planta do Xisto and the ERCC - you would like to offer a special gift - you would like to support our ecosystem services - only because you support sustainable activities - indirectly you will contribute to the protection of local biodiversity - because you like live deer - because, like India, here, deer seem to be sacred. The diference is that they can destroy subsistence crops, they can destroy loose stone walls that support the land, they don't let native species survive, they don't eat invasive species like eucalyptus or mimosa, they can cause great erosion with heavy soil loss and can cause substantial ecological imbalances. - because you like native species in their natural space - you would like to improve ecological diversity and resilience - because you appreciate fresh and pure water of the best quality - you would like to see, like us, erosion reduced - because you think climate change is there. And action is needed. - because you support small communities - because you know how to appreciate an ecosystem with its needs - because your less than €0.10/day/year is your best investment ever - or just because |
